In this final installment of the Ip Man series, the player finally returns to Korea and decides to do some investigating on his own. The plot unfolds in a number of interwoven story lines: 1) the investigation and truth-seeking of David, who takes on a rogue police officer; 2) David's friend's guilt in the death of a man at the hands of the police; 3) David's conflict with a mysterious character named Armand (John Malkovich); and 4) David tries to persuade a Korean girl named Da-Bong to become his consort.
David does have an heir by his side and attempts to organize the funeral to mark the death of his brother, but soon the immanence of evil envelops everything and everybody, thus, the player must be careful when dealing with one of the wealthiest men in the country. David always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, however, the end result is always the same: his life is saved.
This time around, David doesn't need any saving from Armand, as he finds the culprit, but there are a few twists that threaten to engulf his entire world and his friend's lives. These twists culminate in Armand's return and David needs to protect him from the forces that threaten him.
The book's design and narration are done quite well. The dialogues are very well orchestrated and the narration is done by one of the best action movies actors of all time, Jim Carrey. The only negative point of the book is the lack of mystery and wonder which it otherwise has and there is no real substance to the plots and characters that appear throughout the movie.
This is a very ambitious story to tell and a big question will be left unanswered. The writer makes sure to put some kind of resolution to the main plot of the story, but how can we know what exactly happens in the last part of the movie? I would be glad if the conclusion of the movie brought more mystery and richness to the story and made the player understand the dilemmas that David is facing while he tries to save his life.
Of course, I would be glad if the book's plot was clever enough to convince me to keep reading. The ending leaves the viewer wondering and wanting for more. Nonetheless, it is still entertaining to read and entertaining to watch, as I have read the novel before.
If you're looking for something different from your usual movie viewing experiences, then this movie might just be for you. The ending of the movie is quite unexpected and shocking and only the seasoned action movie fan will find it thrilling. However, even for an action fan, this movie had a bit too much blood and guts in it.
Overall, the movie is good. It is not worth watching, but it is a good cinematic experience.
