This isn't an easy review of the I-don't-know-how-to-date-a-movie review, but The Godfather is a really, really fun film. It has plenty of action and plenty of some fascinating characters, but the thing that makes it so great is its humor. Which is also evident in The Godfather: Part II, and it's just as good.
Robert De Niro's performance is great, and he puts everything he's got into every scene he's in. That is, besides, obviously, the delicious food he's feeding the crew. Michael Corleone is some creepy dude, but he's the best thing about this sequel. He gives the second installment a distinct charm that the first movie could not.
There are a lot of reasons why this movie is so good. First of all, it is entertaining. In other words, even if you don't care for the first Godfather movie, you will enjoy this one. While that may seem like it's too much to ask for, it's definitely true. Besides, a series of movies about Mafia members and their violent exploits can never be boring.
They don't ever lose any of their charm, though, because while they feature great characters, the story is also very engaging. It moves along at a good pace, and the story is told in a way that is easy to follow. It's just as easy to remember as it is to watch. One of the most important things to remember about the Godfather movies is that, while they do have a simple plot, they have so many different themes and subplots that you'll never run out of things to think about.
Some of those are quite heavy, though, and this movie does feature some very heavy moments. You might not enjoy them, and you certainly won't get very far with this movie if you don't like some sort of conflict. That is what makes The Godfather: Part II such a good movie. It always manages to keep things interesting and light at the same time.
Unlike some movies, this one doesn't hold your hand through the entire story, and it gives you no choice as to which direction you want to go. It's just fun watching this film, and you'll definitely appreciate it more after seeing it again than you did the first time. It's like watching a great episode of the Sopranos over again.
I don't know how many times I've watched this movie, but I know I've always been entertained by it. Of course, the only way to really tell how much you enjoy it is to watch it again, and again. Since it's really a movie that isn't so much about the crime it depicts as it is about the people involved, it doesn't take a long time to really get hooked on the story. Even if you're not a fan of the Godfather movies, this is a very enjoyable film to watch.
For anyone who loves the first Godfather movie, this is one movie you shouldn't miss. It's not as good as the original, but it's a lot better than most sequels are. It may be less well known as of yet, but it's actually a pretty good movie, and it will keep you entertained for hours on end. Don't let the first Godfather is the last Godfather.
